Numerical Simulations of Natural Convective Flow in a Differentially Heated Cubical Enclosure

The velocity-vorticity formulation is selected to yield a high quality solution for the natural convective ow in a diierentially heated cubical enclosure. A nite element solution procedure in conjunction with the biconjugate gradient stabilized (BiCGSTAB) sparse iterative solver is utilized to solve the fully coupled system of equations. A divergence free solution is guaranteed with equal order nite element interpolation functions for all state variables. Solutions for the 3D benchmark problems for Ra = 10 4 to Ra = 10 6 document the methodology.
